Memorial Day – 2024

Memorial Day – 2024

May 27, 2024

Hi Everyone,

This Memorial Day weekend, while spending time with family and friends, please take time to reflect upon our county’s fallen soldiers and the sacrifice they made while protecting our freedom. To learn more about citizens of Oak Hill who died while serving in the Armed Services of the United States, visit the Oak Hill Field of Honor. It’s located at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Halifax Avenue. There you will find a flag which represents a citizen of our city who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect us.

Another way to remember the heroes who gave their lives protecting us is to attend the Memorial Day Service at The Oak Hill Saints and Sinner’s Cemetery. The road leading to the cemetery is located at the end of South Gaines Street. The Cemetery Group will be holding the service Monday, May 27. 2024, at 11:00 AM.

The American Legion Post 285 Honor Guard and Chaplain will present the service. The Legion will present each veteran’s grave with a flag; there will also be a 21-gun salute in honor of the sacrifice these veterans made to give us freedom. If you have any questions, please call Spence Youman at (904) 517-0555 or Dru Ann Welch at (386) 689-4786.

—————————————–

There will be no city commission meeting this Monday, May 27, because of the holiday weekend. Our next City Commissioner’s meeting is June 10, 2024 at city hall. The time is 6:00 PM.

Please come and let your voice be heard. Your presence and participation are how we hold our commission to account.

As always, it’s my pleasure to serve you, I appreciate your support. Please let me know what I can do to help. I’m here to represent you…

Thanks again,

Joe Catigano
Oak Hill City Commissioner
