October 14, 2024
Hi Everyone,

That was quite a storm, I hope you all made it through without damage. As the water recedes and power is restored, we are slowly getting back to normal. Times like these are when a person’s character comes to light and when the character of a community shines. In my neighborhood, we had neighbor helping neighbor. I hope that was your experience as well.
Your turnout at our commission meetings has been amazing, Let’s keep it up! Thank you all for supporting your community. Participation is essential to the health and well-being of our city and you are having an impact.

Monday’s city commission will be a busy one and as usual our current leadership is showing no quarter. The agenda pack for the meeting, which by the way was sent out at 11:40 AM Friday October 11, 2024, is packed full. I’m surprised they bothered to send one out all. I mean one full business day to review and digest an agenda that will literally change the look, feel and character of our city is plenty of time, right? Oh wait, were you distracted by that pesky hurricane? Shame on you, but don’t worry, city leadership has your back. They published an agenda that contains four developments: Oak Bridge Colony with 263 homes, Oak Hill Town Center, phase one of four, with 346 homes, Oak Hill Subdivision with 132 Homes, and Lighthouse Cove with 212 homes. That’s 716 new homes being added to a city that currently boasts 1034 housing units. Oh, I almost forgot, they also decided to hold a vote to grant Oak Hill Town Center a community development district, making it a quasi-municipality. Keep in mind that when all phases of Oak Hill Town Center are complete that subdivision will have 942 homes. That means the total number of new homes being added to our city is 1312.

I wonder why they have to drag this over the finish line with just 22 days left until election. Do you feel like the current commission is representing your interests by conducting business this way? Are your elected officials fulfilling your vision of what you want your city to become? I bet you can’t wait for your turn at negotiating the traffic. It will be fun right? Zero road improvements over the last 12 or more years but triple the amount of traffic all in one fell swoop. Now that’s what I call leadership. Finally, exactly what we were all hoping for, Oak Hill becomes just another cookie cutter town along the east coast of Florida. It takes some real talent, vision and foresight to come up with a plan like that. If this is what you believe then you have all the right people representing you on the city commission. If you were hoping for something more, please come to the city commission meeting on Monday and let your representatives know.

Mayor Gibson, and Commissioner McGee are up for reelection on November 5th. Vice Mayor Lindlau is not running this election cycle. Each of these individuals have consistently voted to allow developers to build large scale developments on 40 and 50 foot lot lines with 5 foot setbacks. Remember, it is their choice. Is this “leadership with integrity?” Who are they representing when they do such a thing? You? This is your chance to change the trajectory of our city. GET OUT AND VOTE ON NOVEMBER 5th. Ricky Taylor for Mayor and Mark Drollinger for city commissioner seat #4. I’m sure these two individuals have the character it takes to put your interest first. They will represent you on the commission.
